Balloon-Girl in Palestine by Banksy (2005)

Balloon girl a piece of art by Banksy

This piece of art is by an artist called Banksy, This was created at the time of conflict between the Israelis and the Palestine (started in 1993 going to this very day, many Palestinian people have not accepted many aspects of agreements made with Israel), The image was created make people stop and think about the children in this war between the two.

This artifact is on a 425-mile-long West Bank barrier, separating Israel from the Palestinian territories. The context of the image is seen as a hopeless end that the only was to get over this wall is to hold balloons and believe (fly) which isn't reality. The visual artifact is intended for a mass audience which is nationally, although it's on the wall which separates the land this gives people the hope to believe. This shows that British history has developed that Britain are more involved in current affairs that in the early periods

This image communicates our individual identity of being one (a single child) it has a global connotation of children in Israel and Palestine; they need to be free from this war zone and live a future. An individuals we need freedom and it’s just beyond the wall.

The image says that society becoming demolished there is no hope to cross the border between the two lands. The only was is to hold on and be lifted which isn't going to realistic happen at the process of this on going conflict. It used stereotypes of children that when we were younger we believed that flying was possible and that you could do what you want.

The stereotype of children and balloons are used effectively, that balloons can leap you in the air if you hold on tight enough.

I interpret this image as a powerful message that has been put across to the world. This is a conflict that has been on going from 1993 to this present day, and no one has thought of a way to tear down this wall for peace between the two. The children are the future of the world and this shouldn't be happening. I see the 'balloon-girl' image as a sign of hope that the only way to cross the border and survive is by being lifted by a 'balloon'. This 'balloon' could be a sign of a new leader to come that can solve this conflict striving for peace between two.
